In the United States, it is estimated that 93 Million Americans are affected by obesity in some way and more than 9 Million adolescents (children and teens 6-19 years old) are considered overweight. Today, Lisa's joined by Sam Polk, the founder of an organization that aims to do something about it. Groceryships, a Los Angeles based non-profit, helps low-income families struggling with obesity, diabetes, food addiction and/or malnourishment by awarding Groceryships, a comprehensive program of financial assistance, nutrition & cooking classes, and psychosocial support designed to increase consumption of whole, plant-foods. They leverage the power of social capital to empower families through support and education, and to foster organic change on a community level through mentorship and train-the-trainer models.
